Un año más y despues de mucho trabajo por
parte de los antigüos mienbro del Tri-Team FFB, ahora en MRRC Munich Triathlon,
la Bundesliga arranca de nuevo en un formato tan peculiar cómo expectacular
pero que olía a problemas nada más ser explicado:
Equipos de 5 miembros. Natación 5x200 a relevos en piscina, 2 equipos por
calle para un total de 16. Todos los equipos arrancan a la vez. Tras esperar al
último nadador juntos la transición y 26km de bici sin drafting entre distintos
equipos, y he aquí el problema que ya os podeis imaginar y luego vereis
ejemplificado. Para terminar un 5300 a pie esperando al 4° hombre.
Another year and after tons of work by the old members of
Tri-Team FFB, now on MRRC Munich Triathlon, Bundesliga starts again with a peculiar
such as spectacular race format that somehow smelled like problems once
explained:
5 member teams. Swim 5x200 relay on pool, 2 teams per lane
for a total of 16. All teams start at once. After waiting for the last swimmer
the whole team heads to T1 to start a 26km bike ride, no drafting between teams,
here you can already imagine the problem I will later show an example of.
Finishing with a 5300m run waiting for the 4th team member.
Chuzos de punta los dias y horas previas a la Carrera hacían que los
líderes de equipo se devanaran los sesos sobre cómo vestir a sus chavales sin
tapar el dorsal en brazos y piernas. No era tanto problema para nosotros, que
no teníamos más que el mono de equipo estandar Aquaman proporcionado por Triathlon.de.
Las pruebas de grupos de edad sufrieron la intensa lluvia, pero el cielo se
abrió para los gallos de pelea, varios olímpicos en lista de salida, incluyendo
un viejo (aunque joven de edad) amigo Mario Mola, que se mostraba sorprendido y
contento de encontrar a otros 3 españoles allí.
Pouring rain the previous days and hours, team leaders
crunching their heads about what outfit to use. We had nothing warmer than our
standard Aquaman tri-suit that Triathlon.de provided us with, so there was no
decision to make. Age grouppers suffered the heavy rain, but the sky cleared up
for the big guys, several Olympians in the field, including a good old (but
young in age) friend Mario Mola, who showed happiness and surprise to see 3 Spanish
fellows there.
Me tocó nadar primera posta, con aparentemente todos los mejores nadadores
de cada equipo y saliendo el primero en cerca de 2’, metiendome media piscina
(50m) según me dijeron y dejando al equipo 11°, la posta de Philipp Peter nos
dejó algo rezagados en la última plaza y Frank Schuster poco más pudo hacer que
no empeorar el asunto, pero al rescate vinieron Ale Cañas y David Castro que
nos devolvieron al puesto 12°.
Turn for me to swim in first place with apparently all the
best swimmers from each team, coming out the first guy with a 2’ dead time,
about half a pool (50m) in front of me as I was told, leaving the team on 11th
position. Philipp Peter´s turn left us on the last position, and Frank Schuster
couldn´t do anything else than keeping up the distance, but Ale Cañas and David
Castro came to the rescue and brought us back to 12th place.
Sin problemas ni cambios en T1, rodeados de equipos, lo que me dio
sensación de confianza, estamos en carrera. Pronto rodamos en la autovía donde
daríamos 3 vueltas, mientras un equipo nos adelanta trabajamos para
organizarnos y empezar de una vez a dar pedales. Intimidante aparece una moto
de juez a nuestro lado, “no os pegueis”, les grito. Tira para adelante Juez!! Alli
tienes trabajo que hacer!! Con un gran peloton de 10 equipos (50 tios) sin
ningún tipo de escrúpulo a la hora de ponerse a rueda entre ellos, era cómo un
gran sistema planetario donde los miembros de cada equipo se dan relevos y los
propios equipos entre si en perfecta armonía para avanzar todos juntos. Perdido
el tren, perdida la oportunidad, peor aún perdido un miembro tras una vuelta.
Ya solo somos 4 y poco a poco vamos perdiendo tiempo con el gran grupo. Nos
bajamos con solo un par de equipos detrás y escasas opciones de mejorar, pero
cada posición es una guerra en si misma y hay que seguir luchando con Neukölln
Berlin a nuestros talones.
Transición rápida, pero dos cascos caen fuera de la caja y tengo que
volver a colocarlos “seguid corriendo”, les grito de nuevo. Un fuerte ritmo de
salida para mantener la posición, pero pronto Philipp empieza a sufrir y hay
que recurrir a una mano en la espalda. Ale tampoco tarda en mostrar síntomas de
fatiga tras la 2a de 5 vueltas, quedamos David y yo para empujar. El ritmo es
bueno, pero no suficiente y los de Berlin nos pasan para dejarnos en penúltima
(15a) posición en meta.
Fast transition, but two helmets out of the box made me turn
back and put them inside, “keep running”, I yell. A strong starting pace to
keep the position, but soon Philipp starts to suffer and a hand pushing his
back is needed. Also Ale shows his fatigue on the 2nd of 5 laps, so
now there’s David and me pushing. The speed is good but not enough to keep the
guys from Berlin unde control, leaving us on the 15th position on
the finish line.
A bit dissapointed with the result, tough there´s nothing
else we could, but most of all unhappy with the race format which ended up
being the expected pantomime on the bike. Not blaming, of course, the athletes
ivolved, but the DTU for considering more important the show that fairplay.
While highways are narrower than 100m wide sorry boys but this is not possible.
I thank them though for cutting down a big piece of highway and all the effort
dropped down to make the event a relative success. Still they could have a look
at the French GP, the’ve been doing it for years with great results, don’t need to
invent anything new.
